Applying To Us
In 2008 The Pilgrim Trust gave over £2 million towards projects in its two areas of interest. Within these areas, projects of national, regional and historical importance are considered. We favour giving to organisations where our grants will make a significant difference.
Our Programme Areas
Preservation & Scholarship
Our concern is the preservation of the United Kingdom’s rich heritage for the benefit of future generations. Part of that heritage lies in physical objects such as buildings, artefacts and recorded information e.g. books, manuscripts etc. In this programme area emphasis is placed on projects that seek to conserve historical buildings, monuments and collections. Increased awareness of and access to collections is also important and we encourage projects that promote awareness either by making collections more available or by supporting academic research. Organisations seeking grants for places of worship should read our guidelines for further details as we make annual block grants to the Church Buildings Council, the National Churches Trust and the Scottish Churches Architectural Heritage Trust.
Social Welfare
This programme aims to break cycles of dependency and to help develop a sense of social inclusion in disadvantaged or marginalised groups within the UK. In this category we concentrate our grant-giving activities to two specific areas. These are:
- projects that support people who misuse drugs and alcohol
- projects in prisons and projects that provide alternatives to custody.
Only appeals explicitly related to these two areas will be considered. Read More…
Our Funding Schemes
Last year we made grants totalling over £2 million. The grants were made via our two schemes, the Main Grant and Small Grant Funds.
Main Grant Fund
As our primary grant outlet, this fund distributes approximately 90% of our annual grant budget. If the project fits our programme criteria, organisations can apply under this scheme for sums above £5,000.
Small Grant Fund
This fund is reserved for requests of £5,000 or less. Applications to this fund normally require less detailed assessment (though a visit or meeting may be required) but applicants should include the names of two referees from organisations with whom they work.
