As we approach the end of the year it’s great to hear news about the completion of some of the many projects we support, as the power of a Pilgrim Trust award is realised. This November seems to be particularly busy with the completion of a range of projects that demonstrate the breadth of our grant giving.
Camphill School Aberdeen supports children and young people with learning disabilities and multiple diagnoses to reach their fullest potential. In March 2023 we awarded them £15,000 towards the restoration of Murtle Lodge, a traditionally built granite property that was unused and dilapidated. The plan was to restore the historic building and retrofit it to create a new sustainable social enterprise.
Just over a year and a half later, the organic sustainable store, takeaway café and heritage hub is now fully complete. The renovated space is enabling public facing workshops offering skills, meaningful work opportunities for young people with learning disabilities and complex additional support needs.
Alex Busch Executive Director, said: ‘We are so grateful for the Pilgrim Trust’s generous support which has played a huge part in helping us turn our vision into a reality. The young people are delighted with the new space and have been working hard in our learning for life workshops.’
