Archives Revealed project to be expanded with £5m investment from the National Lottery Heritage Fund

As a founding partner of the scheme back in 2005 we are delighted with the investment which will bring the programme’s value to £6million over 3 years. It will open up many more UK archive collections to the public for research and enjoyment.

Archives Revealed is a partnership programme between us, the Wolfson Foundation and The National Archives and we are delighted to welcome the National Lottery Heritage Fund and the opportunities that this provides to expand the reach and impact of the programme. Sue Bowers, Pilgrim Trust Director said:

‘We are delighted by the news of this generous investment from the National Lottery Heritage Fund. The Pilgrim Trust was a founding partner of the scheme nearly 20 years’ ago.  Over that time, we have helped shape, develop and administer it as well as provide funding. As a Trust we are keen to encourage partnership funding and look forward to the results of this new relationship which we helped to broker.’

The programme is oversubscribed, and the archival sector reports a significant cataloguing backlog and need for investment. This investment will increase the programme’s scale and ambition, enabling it to: save archival heritage and make it accessible; equip the archive sector with the skills and knowledge it needs for a more resilient future; and increase the impact of and engagement with diverse archives across the UK.
